I'm new to First Holywood Presbyterian Church

I'm New

We know that arriving at a church for the first time can be daunting...

Visitors of all ages are very welcome to First Holywood. We meet at 11.00am on Sunday mornings for worship and we have activities for children and young people that take place during this time.

This section of our website is designed to help you to know a little bit about us before you arrive, and to answer some of those questions which people often have when attending church for the first time or a church other than one that they know. So, if you want to know what to expect, how people dress, if our church is accessible etc - we'll try to answer it here.

On a Sunday morning, members of the church will be present at each entrance and should be able to answer any other questions that you might have.

Church Service

Our Sunday morning service usually lasts between 1 hour and 1.5 hours. People arrive anytime between 10.30-11.00 before the service begins.

Wear whatever you are comfortable in - we have no dress code.

We have tea and coffee after the service in our church hall and everyone is welcome at this.

Children

Please don't worry if your children make a noise - if you are concerned, we have a CRECHE available for young children with toys and a relay loop of the service, however they are very welcome in the service.

We have our children's ministry for children of primary age and CONNECT for young people in Years 8-12

Communion

We remember the Lord's Supper and share in communion together a number of times per year. All who know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour are welcome to share in communion with us.

Scripture

We believe that

"all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Our pew bibles are the NIV translation and we generally read from this translation during the service.

Parking

We have a car park outside the church which has plenty of space. Alternatively, people park on the church side of the Bangor Road.

Money

You will not be asked for money during our church services and the vast majority of our church activities are free to attend.

Opportunity to make a freewill offering is provided by means of collection plates in the vestibule prior to the service which you may see members of our congregation contributing to.

Taking part?

You will not be expected to kneel or read out loud, but we encourage you to sing along with the band as they lead us in praise, and to listen to the Bible being read and explained… but you are also welcome to simply sit and observe what’s going on.
